Bacon, David Norman Henry.jpg
Bacon, David Norman Henry(1841 - 1931). The Bacon Family arrived in Port Chalmeers in 1858 and in Broad Bay in 1859. They competed with the Smith family for the harbourside sections, but missed out. Consequently, their first sections were at the end of Bacon Street. In 1900 they bought from the Smith estate the sections they had missed out on in 1859. In 1905 he began to sub-divide part of the Smith estate into Bay View Road (Moerangi Street) in his town of Margate. Sections sold quickly for cribs, and a piece of land was donated for the community hall. In 1912-13 he further sub-divided the Smith land for the Margate extension. A house built in this section became the family farm house, "The Crescent" until 1966.
