Two reserves were created on Yellow Head, one for the cemetery and the other for a school. The first school was therefore on the reserved land at the corner of Sandpiper St and Portobello Rd, opened in 1877. It can be seen well on the 1897 Panorama. Now converted to a home (710 Portobello Rd) up a driveway from the corner with Sandpiper St.
