The original Bacon farm stretched from Smiths/Turnbull Bay around to the hill opposite the first school. John Bacon lived in this section, his house at the bottom of the hill next to the road. Over the years the ivy that was planted around the house nearly took over, hence its name "the Ivy Cottage".
