Caselberg Book/Art Event – 3 May

Caselberg Book/Art Event – 3 May

Hello

As you may already know, the Caselberg Trust has a major fundraising event, BookMarks II coming up on Friday 3 May, 5.30-7.30-pm at the Community Art Gallery, on Princes St, Dunedin in the lead-up to Dunedin Writers and Readers Festival. We are keen to reach as wide an audience as possible and would therefore be very grateful if you would forward this email and the attached ‘flyer’ (I’ll attach it in pdf & jpeg formats) through your email networks.
It’s going to be a great event, keeping the fun in fundraising and true to the Caselberg Trust’s spirit of generosity, cooperation and collaboration across artistic genres. Dunedin’s very own composer/performer, Dudley Benson, will be MC for the night and Alexandra poet, Michael Harlow, this year’s recipient of the Prime Minister’s Award for Literary achievement in Poetry, will introduce the event. Ronald Proctor of Proctor’s Auctions will be our auctioneer.
An estimated 150 writers from across the country, and a couple beyond, have generously donated over 300 signed first edition copies (for the most part) of their work to be sold, with all proceeds going to the Caselberg Trust. The more valuable works will be auctioned on Friday night, 3 May together with a small selection of book-related artworks. Books to be auctioned include An Autobiography’ by Janet Frame (No 276/500), a Vintage Collector’s NZ Hardback Edition1994) signed by the author,  a number of exquisite limited edition hand printed works (including 1979 limited edition Hawk Press ’JC Beaglehole The Death of Captain Cook’ by Alan Loney) plus sought after first edition works by NZ leading authors. Artworks are by Claire Beynon, Nigel Brown, Barry Cleavin, Inge Doesburg, Tara Mcleod, Kathryn Madill, Joanna Margaret Paul, John Z Robinson  and Janet de Wagt. The remaining books will be on sale at a set price on Friday night and through Saturday, 3 & 4 May.
The first 50 tickets sold on the Friday night will each receive a Limited Edition BookMark Print by a local artist. Refreshments include complimentary wine and boutique beer brewed especially for this event, with labels designed by Nigel Brown, Barry Cleavin and John Z Robinson.
It’s going to be a wonderful celebration of Dunedin’s Literary and Arts Culture. We hope to see you there.
