Broad Bay Jetty Timeline: 1870 - First jetty built by local settlers 1902 - Structure in disrepair 1903 - New and larger jetty constructed, shelter shed built on "T" of jetty 1909 - Deepening of berth to accommodate new steamers 1911 - Extension into deeper water to enable berthing of larger ferries at low tide, and construction of hand rails and trolley track 1923 - installation of electric lights 1934 - Extension demolished and jetty brought back to its previous length 1939 - Otago Harbour Board advise their intention to demolish the wharf, causing the residents to voice their concerns, and form a deputation challenging the decision 1965 - The jetty has fallen into disrepair; since funds were not available for repairs, the jetty was demolished. There are still 3 piles from the old jetty visible beside the new jetty (1997, officially opened 1998)
